Dr. Hemant K. Bhargava joined UC Davis' Graduate School of Management
in July 2003, and holds a secondary appointment as Professor of
Computer Science. He has previously held faculty positions at
Penn State University's Smeal College of Business
Administration, and at the Naval Postgraduate School in
Monterey, and visiting appointments at Carnegie Mellon University, Humboldt University (Berlin,
Germany) and the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands).
Dr Bhargava's research expertise is Technology Competition and
Strategy and the Economics of information technologies and
systems. This research highlights distinctive characteristics
of information and network goods, and their impact on specific
elements of operations, marketing, and competitive strategy.
Dr. Bhargava's recent publications in this area cover topics
such as product bundling and versioning, information
intermediaries and two-sided markets, sponsored search in
recommenders and search engines, stockout compensation
practices, performance-based pricing for IT goods, pricing
strategies for grid computing, and information structures in
contract design. His work has appeared in several academic
journals including INFORMS Journal on Computing, Management
Science, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management
Information Systems, IEEE Computer, Decision Support Systems,
and Interfaces. His research on DecisionNet won Best Paper
Awards at leading Information Systems conferences. Dr. Bhargava
was awarded the Menneken Prize for Excellence in Research at
the Naval Postgraduate School in 1998. He has held editorial
positions for leading journals, and served as Faculty Chair at
the Graduate School of Management, UC Davis.
